ODP motor
When electrical current flows through windings of an electrical motor it produces heat while operating
Due to this heat the motor temperature rises,This rise of temperature could cause the motor to be burnt
Several motor cooling methods are used to reduce this temperature rise
ODP “Open Drip Proof motors” is one of the used cooling methods ,where the air can flow through motor windings as the motor chamber has open vents
ODP motors are opposite TEFC don’t need any cooling fans
This cooling method is suitable for that type of electrical motors that don’t overheat
Disadvantage of Open Drop Protection motors
This kind of motors has almost no protection against humidity and dust, So the motor windings are not protected against dust and humidity
Dust and humidity can enter into the motor making dirty bearing and winding
Some motors are made with laminated winding and the bearings are made sealed to overcome the dust contaminants issues
